Horizon Mentorship Program outcomes and highlights
Shiekh Uzair wrote down how Horizon Mentorship Program helped him
How was Horizon Mentorship helpful to me in achieving Global Schools Foundation scholarship?
My life has been a journey of troughs and ridges, I constantly move from one challenge to the next and use the light from each peak to guide my path forward accordingly. I can confidently say that the f irst major peak I climbed was through the Horizon Mentorship Program. When I reached the top, I was at a new height, and it changed my view and the trajectory of my life.
The Horizon Mentorship Program was my first step into the world-beyond-school. It introduced me to different aspects of life and helped me improve my public speaking skills.
I was able to develop a well-rounded skill set that made me a strong candidate for the scholarship. And other than scholarship that all rounded development and the art of self-sufficiency and learning is still helping me to this date and here is how:
Holistic Development
The mentorship program's holistic approach helped me grow in multiple dimensions. By integrating mathematics, history, advanced language skills, wisdom poetry, research, technology, and Quranic themes.
Quranic Themes
These teachings guided me in various life circumstances, by studying and embracing themes like compassion, justice, honesty, respect, patience, generosity, I was able to evolve into a more compassionate and just individual.
Speaking Skills
I struggled with a speaking disorder, stammering, so I wasn’t a confident speaker. However, through the Mentorship Program, I was able to receive the help I needed. I honed my speaking skills and emerged as an excellent public speaker.
Introduction to various arts of life
I was never interested in history as I believed we gain nothing by studying the past. However, this program changed my perspective. Through the Horizon Mentorship Program, we studied history through the Quran, examining the incidents mentioned about past societies and what happened to them. This approach made me realize the importance of history, Additionally, various history workshops made me understand how history can help us address and fix future problems in the modern world. This practical approach, rather than a theoretical one, made me realize the importance of history
Through the Horizon Mentorship Program, I discovered the power of poetry. We Engaged in various workshops and studied poets like Allama Iqbal, which broadened my perspective on life and the world. This introduction to poetry not only enriched my understanding of literature but also sparked a lasting passion for the art form.

My memories of recent travel

When the plan of going to Iran earlier in the year was first made, I didn’t expect much. The situation had not been great (that’s what the media told everyone), there were jailings and killings and whatnot. I thought we’d just go to a few religious places and maybe some nice tourist places. What I did not expect was for it to become the best trip of my life. Baba (my father) and Appi (my sister) were with me on this memorable trip.
The day we had to leave - March 16th - was the last day of my grade 9th exams. I was quite stressed about the exam and didn’t give much thought to the trip. We had a late evening flight to Delhi, and the following day - in the night - flight to Tehran. The flight was great - the food even better, I was quite sleepy by the time we reached Tehran. Appi came to pick us up from the airport and I remember being impressed by the way she knew her way around. We reached the hotel in the morning, had breakfast, then slept till sunset.
That evening, we went to the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (r.a.), it was one of the most beautiful nights. The golden dome was shining against the slowly darkening starry sky. The night was peaceful… We sat inside the mausoleum for around an hour, there were just a handful of people. Sitting there, it was so relaxing. All the troubles and worries, they just disappeared. It made me feel light. That is the thing about every religious place we went to in Iran, they all gave me a unique sense of tranquilness.
To express our respect to the souls that responded to the call for courage and sacrifice, we took a walk down behesht-e-zehra, a martyrs’ graveyard next to the mausoleum. Walking there made us all reflect on what it means to build a nation. more...
